E’ il loro primo world tour a cavallo tra il 1979 e il 1980, a determinare la fulminea ascesa dei Police ai quattro angoli del globo. Sting, Andy Summers e Stewart Copeland coniano un nuovo format: rock e reggae miscelato a certi umori di punk e jazz, e a cascate di groove. Un mix unico, irripetibile ed esplosivo. I Police si guadagnano Grammy e Award, il titolo di best-selling band di tutti i tempi e un posto nella storia.
"Outlandos d’Amour" viene pubblicato nel 1978 ed il successivo "Regatta de Blanc" nel 1979; con i singoli "Roxanne" e "Message In A Bottle" i Police si godono i primi successi nelle classifiche del Regno Unito: sono giovani, entusiasti e pronti a sfondare. Ricorda Andy Summers: “Come Napoleone, volevamo conquistare tutto. Per uscire dall'atmosfera disordinata e fervente della Londra di quegli anni, abbiamo concepito l'idea di fare il giro del mondo e filmare l'intera avventura. Per quanto ne sapevamo, nessuna rock band l'aveva mai fatto. Avevamo abbastanza popolarità per poter esibirci ovunque… il progetto si è realizzato appieno!”
Mentre il tour attraversa Giappone, Hong Kong, Australia, India, Sud America, Stati Uniti, Egitto, Grecia, Francia… Sting, Summers e Copeland vengono ripresi sul palco,

nei backstage, nei break e, in certi momenti, anche a loro insaputa: i filmati vengono quindi montati e raccolti nel video “Around The World”, uscito nel 1982 in formato VHS.
Quel video ora si trasforma in "The Police: Around The World Restored & Expanded", con audio rimasterizzato, immagini restaurate e l’aggiunta di contenuti extra. Dice Summers: “Non è stato semplice restaurare quei filmati in 16mm ed aggiungere bonus track e filmati inediti in 4K, ma sono soddisfatto del risultato e felice che il documentario esca!”
Il 20 maggio 2022 "The Police: Around The World Restored & Expanded" sarà pubblicato nei formati DVD+CD, Blu-ray+CD e DVD+LP (vinile blu).
