Classe 1948, nato a Charleston in South Carolina, Alphonse Mouzon è uno dei batteristi più influenti in attività, la sua discografia e le sue collaborazioni elencano nomi come Tommy Bolin, Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Miles Davis, Lee Ritenour, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Santana, Betty Davis e molti, molti, altri ancora. Il modo in cui Mouzon ha colpito il mondo dei batteristi lo ha reso fonte di ispirazione per moltissimi professionisti e tantissimi giovani, pronti a seguire i suoi insegnamenti ed il suo esempio.
Purtroppo lo scorso settembre ad Alphonse Mouzon è stata diagnosticata una rarissima forma di cancro, che però, con sua grande fortuna, sembra anche essere curabile con le giuste terapie. Come è facile immaginare sono ora le terapie a creare un grave problema, in quanto i costi per sostenerle sono altissimi e, ahimè, fuori dalla portata di Alphonse. Anche noi siamo quindi raccogliamo l'appello di uno dei suoi più grandi ammiratori, Zoro, per segnalarvi la possibilità di donare qualsiasi somma, piccola o grande che sia, per aiutare Mouzon nel raggiungere la cifra necessaria al portare avanti le proprie cure e combattere la malattia al meglio.

Dear colleagues, Those of us in the drumming community know there that is no bond quite like the one between fellow drummers. It is a very special brotherhood and sisterhood for which I am grateful to be a part. So today on Thanksgiving, I ask that in thanks for all that you have, that you might consider selling a piece of drum gear you no longer need or are willing to sacrifice in order to lengthen the life of a great drummer and man. For those of you that don’t know, Alphonse Mouzon is one of the most accomplished drummers of our times and has made an indelible mark in music through his legendary work with Mcoy Tyner, Weather Report, Roberta Flack, Miles Davis, Larry Corryell, Herbie Hancock, and many others. On September, 7th, Alphonse was diagnosed with an incredibly rare kind of cancer, but the good news is it can be treated but the medical treatments are costly. Alphonse was one of my biggest musical influences and showed me great kindness and love as a young man, and has remained an encouraging voice and friend all of my life right up to today! Throughout my career he would take time out of his busy life to come and see me in concert with the various artists I played with over the years, which meant so much to me. I would like to honor this one of a kind man and drummer by rallying all of my drumming brothers and sisters around the world to make a contribution toward saving his life. But you need not be a drummer to make a contribution. One of the most beautiful things in the world is to see a total stranger love on another total stranger, for example read the powerful Biblical story of the Good Samaritan found in Luke 10:25-37. I understand that everyone is in a different place economically, but just give what your heart tells you to give, and what you can afford to give.
